01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

A generous serving of slow-braised pork belly over rice, known as kongrou fan, is a Taiwanese home-style and street-food favourite available at Māo Mǐ. The menu describes tender pork that flakes apart, its fatty layers steeped in a sweet-and-savoury sauce, with the braising juices flavouring the rice. Choose a regular or large portion. Set meals come with 3 daily side dishes and soup; one diner who ordered the lu rou fan set meal particularly remembered the side dishes and pickles.

For another pork-and-rice option, the lu rou fan set meal features finely chopped pork belly braised with Taiwanese-style soy sauce, rice wine, shallots, five-spice powder and other ingredients. The chicken rice set meal pairs rice with shredded chicken and a chicken-based sauce. Both come with side dishes and soup and cost ¥1,350. If you are in the mood for something fried, consider the pai gu fan, with pork loin seasoned with soy sauce and spices, or the Taiwanese fried chicken platter, made with chicken breast marinated in Taiwanese spices and fried with ingredients including Taiwanese basil.

Tofu pudding makes a gentle finish. The plain version has a smooth texture and mild soy-milk sweetness, while the peanut variety comes with sweetened peanuts. One diner enjoyed the toppings on the mini tofu pudding served with a set meal, including taro balls, mung beans and tapioca, and said they would order a full portion next time. The tea selection includes Wenshan Baozhong and honey-aroma black tea, offering plenty of choice for a leisurely post-meal cup.

Along with dining in, Māo Mǐ offers bento takeaways and collection at the entrance. You can settle in for a set meal or take one away to enjoy elsewhere.
